Our operating and purchasing policies ensure that active measures are taken to recycle and reuse our resources, optimise the use of electricity and reduce unnecessary paper, water and office waste. In addition we maintain a process of turning our leftover food scraps into a rich fertiliser by maintaining our own worm farm and composting bins off site.
We choose to help reduce the impact of our office energy consumption through the Government accredited Origin GreenPower program. GreenPower is Government accredited renewable electricity generated from a source built since 1997. Only those products that meet the stringent rules and guidelines of the Government's GreenPower accreditation programme can carry the accredited GreenPower tick. These programs have been rated as the best green energy products in Australia four times in a row by Green Electricity Watch, a body comprising Australia's leading environmental groups.
Our city location has been architecturally designed and built to take full advantage of natural light and ventilation to reduce energy usage. Located in Leigh Street, in the heart of the beautiful City of Adelaide, our office is centrally positioned, increasing our accessibility for staff and clients, and giving us access to public transport. This in turn reduces emissions caused by travelling to and from our office.
As a technology firm, the use of our own infrastructure is also a major focal point. At CDAA we have abandoned the use of multiple physical servers and have moved to a server virtualisation environment for greater energy and operational efficiency.
Even our phone system has been audited and upgraded to the latest Cisco VoIP based system providing benefits in terms of cost savings, reduced waste, increased efficiency and greater flexibility in the way our business operates and grows.
Further emissions stemming from fossil fuels due to travel to and from work, and travel to meetings and for other business is calculated through the Carbon Neutral program as a 'Bronze' Supporter. From 2007 to 2013 CDAA have cumulatively contributed to 50 tonnes of CO2 offset through accredited projects and 233 tonnes of CO2 to be sequestered by forest sinks.
In addition CDAA also support Trees For Life with funds specifically going to tree planting and environmental regeneration in South Australia.
