In the biggest update to its search engine since the release of Google Instant, this month Google has launched what it calls ‘Search Plus Your World’, a more personal version of its search engine that integrates results from its Social Network Google+ into its traditional Google listings.
What this means, put simply, is your Google experience becomes a whole lot more … social.
It should come as no surprise that search is becoming more social. Until last year Google was showing Twitter feeds with search results. However at the end of the year the Twitter and Google deal fell apart and Twitter blocked Google from indexing all their content. So with the recent launch of Google+, Google Search has started to incorporate Google+ with its search results. Currently Google is getting slammed for favouring their own platform, but with Facebook and Twitter blocking access to their content, even if Google wanted to display data from these other networks it simply isn’t possible.

The result from this recent action taken by Google is that we expect it to have a huge impact on how traditional SEO is used for customers. What is clear though is that Google+ is going to become a key part of almost every brands SEM (Search Engine Marketing) strategy.
“At CDAA our belief is that this recent change by Google will result in ‘Search’ merging with ‘Social’. This exciting new development will open the door to a host of new opportunities for brands to market and engage with their target audience in the very near future within Australia” says Reheen Guin, CDAA’s Digital Marketing Analyst.
While we are yet to see these changes rollout here in Australia, rest assured they are coming and are likely to turn the Search Engine Marketing world as we know it upside down. At CDAA we have already started exploring strategies to take advantage of these recent changes. We will be posting more about this in the coming weeks – Please continue to watch this space.
